I renewed my california drivers license sept 17th 2010 by sending all requested information to the DMV. I called at least a dozen times and was promised my renewed license every time.
It never came though, but to my suprise, today Jun 27 2011 it finally arrived !!
Better late than never, but it is not what I call "optimal" ;-)
